Privacy Policy
Effective date: September 5, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information Journaily ("we", "us") collects when you use journaily.com (the "Service"), how we use it, and the choices you have.
1. Information we collect
- Account information. When you create an account we store your name, email address, a password hash (never the password itself), your interface language, and your subscription tier.
- Sign-in with third parties. If you sign in with Google, Apple, Facebook, X, or Amazon, we receive your basic profile from that provider (name, email address, and the provider's account identifier). We never receive your provider password.
- Content you create. Topics you follow, comments you post (including automatic translations of them), reactions and votes, and research requests you run.
- Technical data. Standard server logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested) used for security, rate limiting, and debugging.
- Analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand how the Service is used (pages visited, approximate location, device type). Google Analytics sets its own cookies and processes data under Google's privacy policy. We do not use advertising trackers.
2. How we use information
- To provide the Service: personalized topic feeds, comments, translations, and AI-generated summaries.
- To send transactional email only — account verification and password-reset links. We do not send marketing email.
- To keep the Service safe: abuse prevention, rate limiting, and security logging.
We do not sell or rent your personal information to anyone.
3. Cookies and local storage
We use a session cookie to keep you signed in and your browser's local storage for preferences such as language, region, and dismissed notices. Google Analytics sets its measurement cookies (see above). We set no advertising cookies.
4. Where your data lives
The Service is hosted on Amazon Web Services in the United States. Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and credentials are stored in managed secret stores.
5. Sharing
We share data only with the service providers needed to run the Service (Amazon Web Services, including its email delivery service, and Google Analytics for usage measurement) and, when you choose to sign in with a third-party provider, with that provider as part of the sign-in flow. We may disclose information if required by law.
6. Retention and deletion
Account data is kept while your account is active. You can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us; deletion removes your profile, followed topics, reactions, votes, and comments (comments that other users have replied to are anonymized instead, so conversations remain readable).
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. Contact us to exercise these rights.
8. Children
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
9. Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated version here and adjust the effective date above.
10. Contact
